After a 16-year Navy career, Dr. Donald O'Malley settled in Cape Cod to practice Orthopedic Surgery
. While practicing sports medicine, he has quickly established himself as "The Shoulder Guy," performing complex reconstructive procedures like rotator cuff repair through the arthroscope as outpatient surgery. In addition, Dr. O'Malley performs total shoulder replacement
for arthritis and post-traumatic conditions. Dr. O'Malley has been a leader in developing the total shoulder replacement program at Falmouth Hospital, and he also enjoys an excellent reputation for non-surgical care of disorders of the musculoskeletal system, including the shoulder.
Dr. O'Malley graduated from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) where he continues to serve as Assistant Professor of Surgery. He trained at the Bethesda Maryland Naval Hospital under Dr. Scott Steinman, a world-renowned shoulder and upper extremity surgeon who now practices at the Mayo Clinic. Bethesda Naval Hospital is also known as "The President's Hospital," where sitting Presidents of the United States have gone to have their orthopedic surgery. Dr. O'Malley participated on the team that treated a sitting Vice President and a current Supreme Court Justice for Achilles Tendon Rupture. He continues to assist the White House Medical Unit when Presidental trips come to the region. As a Naval Flight Surgeon, Dr. O'Malley has been a member of the Space Shuttle Recovery Team, and has worked with the Navy Flight Demonstration Team, The Blue Angels.
